About Us
Amentum are a leading engineering organisation delivering complex, safety‑critical control and automation systems within the nuclear sector. We are also part of a 10-year control systems framework for designing, manufacturing, and installing control systems to aid decommissioning and operational efficiency, the project comprises of more than 200 nuclear facilities and more than 1,000 buildings in Cumbria. We are a Key supplier and are looking for people to join our team.
You will be working on a multi‑million‑pound contract to manage system design, Programme, Test and assembly. The framework supports the site's high‑hazard risk reduction programme. We have existing Teams out of Birchwood Park, Warrington, Cumbria and Newcastle North East, where we can manage hybrid working, with occasional site visits.
The Role
We’re looking for a SCADA Systems Engineer to design and deliver high‑quality supervisory control and visualisation systems for complex industrial applications.
This role focuses on how systems are monitored, controlled, and understood—covering operator interfaces, data visualisation, alarm management, and system integration.
You’ll work across the full project lifecycle, from design through to commissioning, playing a key role in delivering intuitive, reliable, and data‑driven SCADA and HMI solutions/platforms.
This is ideal for a mid‑level engineer looking to deepen their expertise in SCADA/HMI platforms and progress toward a senior position with greater technical ownership.
Why This Role?- Own the operator interface and visualisation layer of safety‑critical systems
- Work on projects where data visibility and usability directly impact operational performance and safety
- Develop expertise across leading SCADA/HMI platforms and architectures
- Be involved end‑to‑end—from design through to live commissioning
- Clear progression path to Senior Engineer with increasing technical responsibility
- Design and develop SCADA systems, including:
- System architecture (client‑server / distributed systems)
- Communications (OPC UA/DA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Develop high‑quality HMI interfaces:
- Intuitive screen design and navigation
- Process visualisation and mimic diagrams
- Consistent UI/UX standards for operator usability
- Configure and manage Alarm systems (prioritisation, rationalisation, diagnostics)
- Configure and integrate SCADA/HMI platforms such as:
Rockwell Factory Talk/Factory Talk View, Schneider Citect/Vijeo Designer, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA / Wonderware - Work closely with control systems engineers to integrate PLC data into SCADA systems
- System configuration and integration, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Commissioning
- Produce high‑quality technical documentation (design specs, test docs, user manuals)
- Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Experience developing SCADA/HMI systems in industrial environments
- Experience with one or more SCADA platforms (e.g. Factory Talk, Citect, WinCC, Wonderware/AVEVA etc)
- Understanding of industrial communications (OPC, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Experience with alarm handling, diagnostics, and system monitoring
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Hybrid working (typically 2–3 days per week in the office, depending on project needs)
- Flexible working hours to support work‑life balance
- UK expensed travel required at key project stages (e.g. testing and commissioning)
- Security clearance: BPSS required (SC eligible)
