Project Overview
The project is the expansion of an existing process facility located on a nuclear site in Capenhurst, Cheshire (UK). The facility is being expanded in response to changing market dynamics and will provide a major component of the UK’s energy security strategy. The scope includes overseeing the delivery of FEED, coordinating the delivery of design deliverables to facilitate construction contract award and the implementation of enabling works.
Subject to successful completion of FEED, there is the potential for a follow‑on EPCM contract to be awarded for the main works contract.
The role will be primarily on site at Capenhurst, with travel to the project office in Warrington as required. Candidates must currently hold, or be able to obtain, an SC security clearance.
Job SummaryAs part of the project team, you will provide technical supervision to ensure that enabling works operations are safely executed, installed in accordance with design requirements, and coordinated with the overall project schedule. The position reports to the Field Engineering Manager. This role is designated as part‑time telework but requires a minimum of three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project site.
MajorResponsibilities Technical Responsibilities
- Monitor the installation of materials and equipment to ensure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor and other technical documents.
- Inspect and record installed components for technical acceptance.
- Review project design and engineering documents to ensure completeness and readiness for safe construction.
- Support reviews of contractor submittals, including technical queries, requests for information, as‑built records, inspections and test plans, material assurance requisitions and non‑conformance reports.
- Provide engineering assistance to Field Supervision and other project personnel.
- Facilitate engineering solutions with the contractor.
- Develop daily reports of sub‑contractor progress and performance.
- Communicate with project controls and contract administration to manage change to the contractor’s scope, price and schedule.
- Track progress of contractor installation and provide input to schedules and cost reports.
- Maintain a responsible attitude toward safety and security.
- Implement and enforce a zero‑accident philosophy for contractors, site personnel and visitors.
- Promote and enforce a positive safety culture on site.
- Support site inspections, toolbox talks and ensure RAMS are fully implemented.
- Maintain high quality standards through effective site inspections and quality control processes.
- Verify material quality and workmanship to ensure results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications and design.
- Raise non‑conformance reports when appropriate.
- Ensure the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
- Support the closed‑loop corrective action programme (CLCA).
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in civil engineering or related field and 8–10 years of relevant experience.
- Nuclear or energy sector experience is an advantage, though not essential.
- Evidence of CDM training and implementation.
- Experience with NEC form of contract.
- Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering principles, construction methods and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Good stakeholder communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to motivate self and others and enhance a collaborative delivery culture.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a collaborative working environment through positive and transparent behaviours.
- Proficiency in site documentation, progress reporting and use of digital tools.
