About the role

Join Balfour Beatty's Regional Civils team as a Site Engineer based out of our Warrington office, and play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the North West. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of civil engineering schemes, including projects in Southport and along the M65 corridor in Blackburn, helping to improve transport links and support local communities.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting the Senior Project Team in delivering the engineering strategy and technical requirements across a range of civil engineering projects in the North West.
  • Setting out works and ensuring construction activities are delivered in accordance with design specifications, quality standards and project requirements.
  • Providing technical support to site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders, while verifying and checking engineering work completed by others.
  • Managing and monitoring materials, plant and labour resources to support safe, efficient and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Ensuring design information, drawings, engineering procedures and quality requirements are effectively communicated and implemented on site.
  • Assisting with project planning, progress monitoring and the production of accurate weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Supporting quality assurance activities, including inspections, audits and the implementation of quality control processes to ensure works are delivered right first time.
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to support the delivery of technical solutions.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are fit for purpose, taking into account site constraints, customer requirements, CDM regulations and other statutory obligations.
  • Supporting procurement and material control activities, helping to manage schedules, resources and associated project costs.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, implementing best practice and promoting innovative engineering and digital solutions across projects.
  • Providing guidance and coaching to junior engineers and site teams, helping to develop a high-performing project environment.
  • Contributing accurate feedback on productivity, programme performance and project outcomes to support ongoing business improvement.
  • Maintaining a relentless focus on Zero Harm, ensuring health, safety and wellbeing are embedded in all aspects of project delivery.

Who we're looking for
  • Proven experience in a Site Engineer, Section Engineer or similar role within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong technical engineering knowledge with the ability to apply industry best practice throughout project delivery.
  • Experience working on highways, structures, drainage, earthworks or other major civil engineering projects.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with an ONC/HNC or professional membership (MICE, MIStructE or working towards) desirable.
  • Valid CSCS Card and a strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Ability to identify technical issues, provide solutions and confidently escalates risks or concerns to senior management when required.
  • Experience supporting the delivery of engineering activities from planning and design through to construction and handover.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and project teams.
