Senior Rail Drainage Engineer
Role description:
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Rail Drainage Engineer to join our Rail North West & Central Business Unit. In this role, you will lead the delivery of drainage design packages for rail and infrastructure projects, ensuring high‑quality technical outputs are delivered in line with programme, budget and client requirements.
- Lead the delivery of drainage design packages for rail and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare, review and verify drainage calculations, drawings, reports and technical documentation.
- Develop drainage solutions covering surface water, foul water, SUDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage.
- Use relevant drainage design and modelling tools, such as Info drainage and Civil Storm to support technical delivery.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure drainage solutions are integrated into wider project designs.
- Support the preparation of approvals and consents from relevant authorities, including LLFAs and Water Authorities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Identify and manage design risks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and Arcadis requirements.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and project teams to support successful project delivery.
- BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in drainage design for infrastructure projects; rail experience is preferred but not essential.
- Experience with surface water, foul water, SUDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage.
- Experience using drainage design or hydraulic modelling software.
- Experience preparing and checking technical deliverables.
- Understanding of approvals and consents processes involving relevant authorities.
- Ability to provide technical guidance to junior team members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a professional institution desirable.
