We’re looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join a major nuclear decommissioning project, supporting detailed design during the Define phase. This hybrid role, based from Warrington or Cumbria, involves working three days a week on-site. It’s an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Chemical Engineer to contribute their expertise to a highly regulated and critical sector.

Client OverviewOur client is a leading organisation in the UK nuclear sector, delivering major projects to ensure safe decommissioning and long-term sustainability. This role provides the opportunity to work on a significant, high-value project impacting the future of the industry.
Responsibilities- Provide regular updates on process team progress to Project Management and engineering leads.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline teams including engineering, safety, commissioning and operations.
- Present designs at assurance reviews, technical committees and safety meetings.
- Complete and check process design deliverables, such as EFDs, Process Descriptions, control philosophy documents, pump and line sizing calculations.
- Support development of radiological, environmental and non-nuclear safety cases for key hazards.
- Maintain and update project documentation and assist wider portfolio tasks where required.
- Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Chartered status with IChemE.
- Proven experience producing and checking process engineering deliverables (e.g. EFDs, line sizing, pump design).
- Expertise in design of large-scale fluid handling systems.
- Knowledge of safety assessment techniques such as HAZOP.
- Strong communication and report writing skills. Ability to work under time and cost constraints.
- Familiarity with Sellafield Ltd processes and approval procedures.
- Experience in nuclear safety case development and substantiation.
- Broader process engineering knowledge of supporting systems (compressed air, water distribution, etc.).
- Previous cooling tower design experience and handling of legionella hazards.
