Controls Specialist

The Business Banking Controls team exists to enable safe, sustainable growth. We are committed to driving risk excellence and are passionate about proactive risk management in the first line of defence. This 6‑month secondment requires an individual to partner with senior stakeholders across Business Banking to strengthen the control environment, embed risk awareness, and lead meaningful change in how we think about risk.

You will act as an advisor to senior business leaders, embedding a strong control environment that supports Business Banking objectives while maintaining risk integrity through a continuous improvement approach to the ongoing management of the risk profile. You will translate policies, including our Business Banking Product Lifecycle Policy and risk appetite, into operational actions, ensuring controls are practical, sustainable, and outcome focused.

You will develop, agree, implement and track remedial plans where control gaps are identified. Engagement with key stakeholders is key to generating productive working relationships at all levels of seniority.

• Experience of working with or knowledge of Business Banking products and services
• A solid understanding of risk, control and regulatory environments within a complex business
• Experience with policy and control management and reporting
• Knowledge of Metric Stream
• Excellent commercial acumen – you’ll understand how risk management adds value, not friction
• A proactive, self‑starter approach to problem‑solving
