Job Summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Thorn Cross. HMP Thorn Cross is a Category D / open prison in Appleton Thorn, Warrington, housing around 430 males. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations – no two days are ever the same!
HoursThis position is full time, working 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are 7:30am – 5:30pm Monday – Friday (4 shifts per week). Weekends are 7:15am – 12:00pm, approximately one in three weekends.
SalaryYou will receive an annual salary of £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.

- Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
- Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy, assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patient care
- Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care
- Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight measurement, etc.
- Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
- Carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams as required

- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
- Experience with in phlebotomy – highly desirable
- Experience in a clinical care setting, ideally from a hospital or prison setting
- Clinical experience – venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
