what is a vehicle make ready operative?

a vmro is key to the day to day running of an ambulance station. You are responsible for ensuring the ambulances are fully stocked, cleaned and ready to go out on shift. This role will include maintaining the ambulances, which is why being a confident driver is important, and ensuring the stations stockrooms are fully stocked. This is to be completed to an infection prevention and control policy standard, along with supporting cleanliness standards processes.

  • uk manual driving licence - held for 1 year or more, with no more than 6 points on your licence
brief overview for the role
  • vehicle cleaning and infection control/ clean and disinfect all items of equipment taken off the vehicle prior to reinstalling it.
  • ensure procedures for cleaning vehicles following transport of patients with infectious diseases are followed at all times.
  • prepare ambulances for each shift, ensuring they are clean and stocked.
  • conduct regular equipment checks, removing any faulty equipment.
  • review and order equipment as required.
  • deep clean & refuel vehicles as required.
  • coordinate vehicle parking on site in line with rosters.
  • report any damages to the vehicles as per our procedures.
  • complete and log all administrative tasks.
  • carry out dynamic risk assessments to assess hazards, then implement safe systems of work and reduce risks to yourself and other persons involved to an acceptable level.
  • maintaining cleanliness of restroom facilities.
  • on occasion, travelling to other sites as required.
  • to undertake any other duties relevant to the post as may be assigned from time to time which are consistent with the post.

  • suitable fitness level - this job can at times be physically demanding.
  • ability to work alone.
  • computer literate and ability to use basic software systems.
  • good basic maths and english.
  • ability to communicate, and treat all colleagues with respect, communicate professionally at all times.
  • ability to work with others.
  • flexibility to meet service needs.
  • desired: prior knowledge/experience with infection prevention.
