Senior Clinical Physiologist (Respiratory and Sleep)

We are seeking a motivated, hard‑working, professional, and passionate Physiologist to join our Cardio‑Respiratory Department. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a friendly and supportive team working across both Warrington and Halton Hospital sites. Our department undertakes a wide range of respiratory investigations, and we are looking for an individual who can work independently and contribute confidently to our service.
Mainduties of the job
- Competent in all routine investigations in the department, including Spirometry with or without reversibility, respiratory muscle strength, full lung function testing using nitrogen washout method and/or body box.
- Review and sign off spirometry performed in community clinics, ensuring reports are sent out within deadline targets.
- Fit and analyse limited‑channel sleep studies and overnight oximetry.
- Analyse and produce complex reports on limited‑channel and respiratory sleep studies to ARTP standards.
- Provide CPAP treatment and prescription changes as required.
- Support the services as they evolve and change for the benefit of patients.
- Provide administrative support as required.
Work unsupervised as a competent practitioner and provide the diagnostic and technical services of the Cardio‑Respiratory Department for Warrington and Halton Hospitals, both on site and within community venues when needed. Participate in the training and supervision of the Trainee Clinical Physiologists and ATO staff.
Person Specification Qualifications- Good pass in GCSE English and Maths.
- ARTP Spirometry Certificate or willingness to work towards it.
- Scientific knowledge acquired through formal training to BSc Healthcare Science (Respiratory and Sleep), Clinical Physiology or equivalent level.
- AHCS registration/eligibility.
- ARTP membership.
- BLS certificate.
- ILS certificate.
- ARTP Part 1.
- ARTP Part 2.
- Minimum two years practical experience.
- Familiarity with basic and advanced clinical investigations in respiratory physiology.
- Analysing polygraphy and overnight oximetry studies.
- CPAP clinics using auto and fixed pressure devices.
- Wide range of respiratory knowledge.
- Knowledge of Caldicott Guidelines.
- Knowledge of appropriate manual handling guidelines.
- Health and safety awareness.
- Experience training of junior staff, both physiologists and medical.
- Competent in performing PFTs.
- Competent in reporting PFTs / Spirometry.
- Knowledge of Lorenzo, Airview, Prismacloud and Care Orchestrator.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Take responsibility for accurate work.
- Pleasant manner, smart appearance, clearly spoken.
- Adaptable to using new PC software.
- Able to push patients in wheelchairs from waiting room to clinic room.
- Concentrate and focus when analysing.
- Compassion towards patients and staff.
- Encourage patients who may be upset to undertake tests to their best ability.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.
- Move gas cylinders for lung function equipment from corridor into clinic room.
