Systems Engineer, Database Administrator
We’re looking for an experienced Database Engineer / SQL Server Developer to join a major engineering project – the Control Systems Framework (CSF). This is a 12-month contract role based in Warrington or Stockton, ideal for professionals with a strong background in database design and integration within PLC/SCADA-based control systems. Client OverviewOur client is a leading engineering solutions provider engaged in mission‑critical projects across highly regulated industries. They are recognised for their technical excellence and commitment to innovation.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, implement, and test database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server or similar technologies.
- Produce comprehensive engineering documentation, including URS/RTM, design and test specifications.
- Create and maintain database structures integrated with PLC/SCADA control systems.
- Ensure effective indexing, query optimisation, and database performance tuning.
- Implement secure access controls, backup, and recovery measures.
- Work closely with PLC and SCADA engineers to design integrated control systems including network architecture diagrams.
- Perform formal acceptance testing and provide commissioning support during site testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database and server‑related issues to minimise downtime.
- Proven experience designing and implementing database structures, ideally in control system environments.
- Skilled in SQL (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle) and familiar with Python for scripting and automation.
- Strong understanding of database concepts, data modelling, and indexing.
- Experience in server deployment, VMWare, and OS configuration.
- Expertise in data migration, backup and restoration procedures.
- Ability to produce high‑standard documentation, functional diagrams, and test plans.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with ability to work under time constraints.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Degree in Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in nuclear, defence, or other regulated sectors.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with SCADA systems, database clustering, and OT cyber security.
- Familiarity with Sellafield Ltd engineering standards and management systems (V-Model).
- Relevant professional memberships and SQL or cyber security certifications.
