We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Linux Systems Administrator to join our IT team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in Linux system administration and gain hands-on experience working with servers, networks, and IT infrastructure.
The Role
As a Junior Linux Systems Administrator, you will help maintain, support, and troubleshoot our Linux-based systems and infrastructure. You will work alongside experienced IT professionals and receive opportunities to develop your technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers
Monitor server performance, availability, and system health
Troubleshoot Linux, network, hardware, and software issues
Manage users, groups, permissions, and access
Perform system updates, patching, and routine maintenance
Assist with backups and recovery procedures
Support basic networking, DNS, SSH, and firewall configuration
Help maintain system documentation and operational procedures
Assist with automation and scripting where appropriate
Respond to technical issues and support requests
What We're Looking For
A good understanding of Linux, particularly Ubuntu/Debian and/or RHEL-based distributions
Familiarity with the Linux command line
Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, SSH, and firewalls
Understanding of Linux users, groups, permissions, services, and file systems
Some experience with Bash, Python, or another scripting language would be beneficial
An interest in cloud technologies, virtualisation, containers, or automation
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
Previous commercial Linux administration experience is not essential. Home labs, personal projects, certifications, college/university work, or other practical Linux experience will also be considered.
