Process Development Engineer

Summary

The mission of this role is to develop superior products and efficient processes through rigorous execution of design for assembly (DFA). The Technical Leader will champion technical excellence in product assembly and process development, collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D and Operations, and support the launch of advanced manufacturing processes that meet product requirements and project timelines.

Responsibilities
  • Define manufacturing technology strategy for new product development and product design changes, influencing design through DFA analysis.
  • Work with the R&D cross‑functional team on product design and process development for new products.
  • Collaborate with product development engineers to define manufacturable product specifications.
  • Perform DFM/A assessments.
  • Establish assembly requirements KPIVs and KPOVs to inform equipment selection and process validation strategy.
  • Design new assembly processes that are efficient, scalable and aligned with targeted Cap Ex & COGs.
  • Present complex data clearly and concisely to all levels of the organization.
  • Author characterization reports as required.
  • Handle R&D pilot scale builds to support development activities.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation plans related to new product industrialization.
  • Identify opportunities for improving existing assembly processes and incorporate them into future DFA.
  • Provide cross‑functional collaboration and leadership skills to support operations during production challenges.
  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of quality assurance principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
Required Experience
  • 8+ years of advanced manufacturing engineering, product design, and/or technical leadership in regulated medical device or similar industry; or 5+ years with a MS degree.
  • 5+ years of advanced manufacturing engineering or mechanical design with a strong focus on DFMA principles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and deploying advanced manufacturing initiatives.
  • Experience in process validation, writing protocols and reports for product commercialization; ability to complete validation.
  • Experience with manual and semi‑automated production lines preferred.
Desired Experience
  • Textile or medical textile processing.
  • Extrusion, knitting, and related processes.
Knowledge
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Solid Works, AutoCAD, and other design and simulation software.
  • Basic tooling, design, and drafting knowledge.
  • Understanding of DOEs, process characterizations, and statistical validations.
  • Familiarity with GMPs and medical device regulations related to manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and assembly requirements.
  • Risk analysis and pFMEA.
  • Project management and budgeting skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to build and implement project plans.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data, write reports and use statistical software such as Minitab.
  • Excellent technical, organizational, planning and capital budgeting skills.
  • Ability to edit and correct part drawings.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration in multicultural, matrixed environments.
  • Independence, motivation, and focus to drive projects to timely, on‑budget completion.
