RoleHome Care Aide/Caregiver at a Visiting Angels in Groton, CT and/or Warwick, RI. Role for Individuals who act as guardian angels, providing personal care and comfort to clients. The caregiver reports directly to the Director Of Client Care, and this is a nonexempt, hourly, part-time, or temporary position based on client needs.
Core Responsibilities- Personal Care Assistance: A caregiver must adhere to the client’s plan of care, which may involve tasks like bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, and oral care. They also assist with dressing and undressing, toileting, and keeping incontinent clients clean and dry.
- Health and Safety Monitoring:
Caregivers assist with the self administration of medications (medication reminders) and are responsible for preparing and maintaining a record of services performed. They must report any changes in a client’s condition, as well as all client and employee incidents or accidents, to a supervisor immediately. A critical aspect of the role is to report any observed, suspected, or alleged elder abuse to the management team without delay. - Household and Mobility Support:
The role also includes assistance with meal planning, food purchase, meal preparation, and cleanup. Caregivers may also help with a client’s laundry, bed linens, transportation needs, exercise, ambulation, and transfer activities. - Professionalism and Communication:
Caregivers are expected to engage in respectful social interaction while maintaining absolute confidentiality of all client related information. They must demonstrate a sympathetic and positive attitude, respond to client requests promptly, and maintain a high level of professionalism and demeanor. The ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and coworkers is crucial.
- A candidate must be at least 18 years old.
- While 1+ years of experience as a caregiver in home care is preferred, it's not a strict requirement.
- All candidates must successfully complete and pass all caregiver training, including ongoing compliance with licensing, certification, background checks, and other assessments as required by federal, state, or local law.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance are also necessary.
This position requires the physical ability to lift, push, or pull items up to 50 lbs. Caregivers must be able to perform tasks involving a combination of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, walking, twisting, and climbing stairs. The work takes place in various home environments, with exposure to typical residential conditions.
