About Us

The County Record Office preserves Warwickshire’s rich documentary heritage, with archives dating back to the 12th century. Our busy public service welcomes nearly 3,000 visitors each year, supporting family historians, local researchers, and anyone with an interest in the county’s past. We are committed to making these historic records accessible, helping people uncover stories, trace connections, and explore Warwickshire’s heritage.

About the Role

This fixed‑term (one‑year) part‑time (21 hours, 0.57 FTE) post is part of the County Record Office’s Public Service Team. The role involves welcoming visitors, front‑of‑house reception duties, and behind‑the‑scenes support for document production.

Key responsibilities include:

operating the reception desk on a rota basis, handling and lifting documents of up to 10 kg from the strongrooms, maintaining the archive’s information systems, and ensuring a positive visitor experience.

We are looking for an archive trainee with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high‑quality public service in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a reasonable level of physical fitness. The role requires suitable stamina to work quickly while maintaining a high standard of service. All essential criteria in the Person Specification must be met.

What We Offer

This fixed‑term opportunity provides practical experience within an archive service, supporting public access to unique and historically significant collections. You will develop customer‑service, document‑handling, and archive‑system skills while contributing directly to preserving and sharing Warwickshire’s heritage.

Additional Information

The Fluency Duty is required: you must be able to speak and provide accurate advice in clear English to the public.

Equality and Diversity

Warwickshire County Council is committed to equality of opportunity for all employees and is keen to address areas of under‑representation in its workforce.
