Job Description & How to Apply Below

Join our professional and supportive school team
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly organised and professional School Business Manager to join our committed, collaborative and supportive staff team within our successful Church of England primary school.

This is a key role within our school and an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a supportive, professional team and wants to make a significant contribution to the smooth and effective running of the school.

Our School Business Manager will work closely with the Headteacher, staff, governors, parents, the Local Authority and a range of external professionals and providers. We are therefore looking for someone who combines excellent organisational and administrative skills with professionalism, discretion, sound judgement and outstanding communication skills.

Previous experience of working in finance and/or within a school office environment would be highly desirable. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate strong financial, administrative and organisational skills, although previous experience as a School Business Manager is not essential.

About the role:
  • financial administration, budgeting, monitoring and reporting;
  • purchasing, invoicing and maintaining accurate financial records;
  • supporting payroll and personnel administration;
  • maintaining accurate and confidential records;
  • supporting HR and recruitment processes;
  • liaising effectively with the Local Authority, governors, suppliers and external agencies;
  • supporting the administration of premises, contracts and services;
  • ensuring statutory and administrative requirements are completed accurately and on time; and
  • working closely with the Headteacher to support the effective operation and development of the school.
We are looking for someone who is:
  • highly organised, methodical and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines;
  • discreet, trustworthy and professional, with a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial, staffing and school information;
  • an excellent communicator, able to build positive and professional relationships with staff, governors, parents, pupils, the Local Authority, suppliers and other stakeholders;
  • confident working with financial information, systems, spreadsheets and administrative processes;
  • accurate, conscientious and attentive to detail;
  • able to work independently, use initiative and take responsibility for their area of work;
  • approachable, calm and solution-focused;
  • able to work closely and effectively with the Headteacher and wider staff team;
  • committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children;
  • supportive of the Christian vision, values and ethos of our Church of England school.
What we can offer:
  • a committed, collaborative and supportive staff team;
  • a successful school with a strong sense of community;
  • wonderful children who are at the heart of everything we do;
  • supportive governors and a committed leadership team;
  • a varied and rewarding role with the opportunity to make a significant contribution to school life;
  • opportunities for relevant professional development; and
  • the opportunity to work within a school with a strong and distinctive Christian ethos.

This is a role requiring a high level of trust. The successful candidate will have access to confidential financial, personnel and organisational information and will therefore need to demonstrate integrity, sound judgement, discretion and professionalism at all times.

Safeguarding:

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and other checks in accordance with current safeguarding requirements.
