About Us

At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the Role

You will be part of National Gas Transmission’s Uncertainty Mechanism team, playing a critical role in shaping the future of the UK’s gas transmission network. As a Bid Specialist , you will work closely with stakeholders from across the business to secure funding for strategic capital investments.

You will be working to build our Uncertainty Mechanism (UM) Re-opener Submissions (think about them as mini-business plans!). This is a highly visible role that focuses on shaping investment priorities and developing high-quality regulatory funding submissions.

Your work will provide confidence to external stakeholders that we are delivering investments that maintain reliability, resilience and performance to deliver for our customers. Uncertainty Mechanism submissions play a significant role allowing us to adjust the scope of the Business Plan (and related funding) based on the changing energy landscape.

What You'll Do

  • Define, own and lead the development of robust UM Submissions translating strategic objectives into robust, deliverable investment plans.
  • Develop and maintain risk and value based submissions that balance asset performance, network risk and customer value and provide clear, evidence-based communication of investment decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deploy robust approaches to whole-life cost modelling, cost-benefit analysis and investment appraisal ensuring decisions are evidence-based and consistent
  • Communicate complex investment decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactively build strong relationships with stakeholders internally and externally and own the relationships that help define the team’s outputs and submissions.
  • Provide assurance, confidence and transparency across investment decision-making process and supporting evidence for submissions
  • Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that enhance asset management capability and maturity.
Why this role matters

This role plays a pivotal part in securing the investment needed to maintain and modernise the UK’s gas transmission network as it transitions towards net zero. Combining engineering, asset management and business case expertise, the role ensures investment decisions are technically robust, economically justified and aligned to regulatory requirements.

Through close collaboration with stakeholders and technical experts, it helps shape critical infrastructure projects that deliver long-term value, network resilience and benefits for customers and consumers.

About You

You will be a natural storyteller who enjoys research and writing. You have the ability to develop clear, logical, and compelling narratives that justify the need for investment and evidence the robust development and assessment of engineering solutions. You are able to translate complex technical, operational, and risk-based information into comprehensive business cases and engineering justifications that support decision-making and secure stakeholder buy-in.

You’ll have:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and challenge at senior levels across multidisciplinary organisation.
  • Strong project management capability to…
