At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role

We're looking for a Capacity Auctions & Development Analyst to support the delivery and development of capacity arrangements that enable the efficient operation of Great Britain's gas transportation market. You'll play a key role in delivering capacity auctions, supporting regulatory compliance, analysing market information, and helping shape future access arrangements.

Capacity and access arrangements are fundamental to ensuring gas can be transported safely, efficiently and in compliance with industry regulations. This role helps National Gas meet its licence and regulatory obligations while delivering value for customers and stakeholders through effective capacity management.

Working across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, you'll gain exposure to market operations, regulatory change, commercial decision-making and industry governance. It's an excellent opportunity for someone with a curious mind, strong analytical skills and a desire to develop expertise in a complex and evolving sector.

What you’ll be doing
  • Deliver medium and long-term entry capacity auctions and future access arrangements in line with regulatory and licence obligations.
  • Support compliance with evolving GB and EU capacity commercial and regulatory frameworks.
  • Analyse capacity booking trends, market behaviours, risks and opportunities to inform decision-making.
  • Manage capacity application and allocation processes, including stakeholder communication and publication of outcomes.
  • Maintain auction parameters and key capacity data used by network customers.
  • Support regulatory, operational and commercial initiatives that improve incentive performance and customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, regulators and industry participants to implement regulatory and process changes.
  • Provide support for industry working groups, forums and system testing activities where required.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate, interpret and present data effectively.
  • A logical, practical and structured approach to problem solving.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and managing risks and opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service and building trust with customers and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with Power BI or similar data and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of the Uniform Network Code (UNC) and gas industry licence obligations.
  • Experience leading or contributing to virtual teams and cross-functional projects.
  • HNC qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Understanding of gas transportation markets, capacity arrangements or regulatory frameworks.
What we offer
  • Market-leading double-match pension (up to 12% company contribution)
  • Annual performance bonus up to 6%
  • Access to the Tusker salary sacrifice car scheme
  • 10x salary life assurance and income protection
  • Flexible benefits including healthcare, dental, and technology options
  • Family-friendly policies, wellbeing support, and professional development opportunities
