ET Regulation - Performance and Investigations Manager About the role

As a member of our growing Regulation team, you will help ensure that our network is ready for the future and shape the GB energy sector at a vital phase of the transition to net zero.

What you'll do Overview

Support National Grid in navigating the regulatory and policy landscape to maximise allowances for our investments and manage regulatory risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead and deliver performance improvement projects
  • Lead commercial and regulatory improvement projects to optimise our regulatory processes and commercial performance.
  • Use trend insights and team feedback to identify risk and opportunity areas.
  • Scope and deliver improvement projects while challenging the status quo and driving continual improvement.
  • Influence and engage credibly at senior and executive levels, translating complex issues into clear, strategic advice.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and challenge to colleagues, shaping emerging network investments.
  • Advise on performance strategy to ensure it informs project decisions.
Managing key stakeholder relationships
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including engineers, group strategy and public affairs, and external partners.
  • Potential engagement with Ofgem and other stakeholders as required.
Providing regulatory expertise
  • Guide colleagues on regulatory frameworks and help shape network investment decisions.
  • Identify suitable regulatory mechanisms and assess benefits and risks.
  • Advocate for consumers throughout project development to align investments with the regulatory environment.
What you'll have
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting complex submissions to key decision‑makers.
  • Stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, developing effective working relationships.
  • An open, pragmatic mindset and confidence to adapt within the regulation team to tackle unforeseen challenges.
  • Results‑oriented, managing timely delivery of complex projects with a high level of detail.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of commercial value drivers in new contexts.
  • Willingness to learn about the transmission system as needed.
  • Beneficial experience in energy policy or regulation and understanding of the GB energy sector, but not required.
  • Degree level in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
What you'll get

Competitive salary of £64k – £78k per annum, dependent on capability and experience.

Annual bonus of up to 30% and annual pay review.

28 days annual leave plus the option to buy/sell up to 5 days per year.
