Purpose of the role
Technology Engineer within the Area 9 team, responsible for delivering cyclical and reactive works on highway communications assets across the West Midlands. The role involves traveling to cover technology assets with National Highways, ensuring safety, coordination with third parties, and participation in maintenance and new infrastructure implementations.
Main Responsibilities- Deliver cyclical works and reactive maintenance on highway communications assets.
- Perform electronic diagnostic checks and prepare reports and documentation.
- Assist with project administration and control.
- Coordinate with third parties for introduction of new infrastructure.
- Operate plant and equipment (compressors, Hiab crane, electrical saws, etc.).
- Identify early opportunities for improvement and report to management.
- Maintain health and safety standards in the workplace.
- Report directly to the Technology Supervisor and Manager during shifts.
- Relevant qualification in electrical or engineering discipline.
- Experience as a Technology Engineer on highways (preferred) or in traffic signals/communications.
- Strong electrical knowledge.
- HGV Class 2 essential.
- UK driving licence required.
- Knowledge of 18th Edition wiring regulations desirable.
- HERS Sector 8 relevant role desirable.
- Strong planning, organisation, self‑motivation and communication skills.
- Salary £34,000‑£38,000 (dependent on experience) plus company car.
- 20% shift allowance for night shifts; 42 hours per week on 4 on 4 off pattern.
- Colas Pension Scheme contributions up to 10%.
