We are excited to be partnering with a growing and well-established Building Controls and Energy Optimisation specialist, who are looking to add a Trend Controls Engineer to their experienced controls team.
Trend Controls Engineer- Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for a pragmatic and technically strong BMS / Controls Engineer to take ownership of trending, analytics, and controls optimisation across a varied client portfolio.
Working in an engineering-led environment, you'll be responsible for implementing and managing BMS trends, analysing performance data, diagnosing system faults, and optimising control strategies to improve building performance and energy efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Configure, manage, and validate trending and historian setups within Trend and Niagara (N4/N3) systems
- Develop and maintain effective trending strategies, sample rates, and data retention policies
- Analyse time-series data to identify control issues, inefficiencies, and optimisation opportunities
- Tune PID control loops and implement control logic improvements using Workbench / Baja Script
- Support commissioning activities including pre-checks, loop tuning, monitoring, and acceptance testing
- Produce clear technical reports, fault findings, and recommended remedial actions for clients
- Create dashboards, alarms, and remote monitoring solutions for operational teams
- Liaise with site engineers, clients, and third-party suppliers to implement and verify solutions
- Maintain accurate documentation including point lists, trend maps, scripts, and commissioning records
- Proven experience (2 years) working with Trend Controls or Niagara 3/4 BMS platforms
- Strong knowledge of trending, historians, and time-series data analysis (BQL desirable)
- Experience with BACnet, Modbus, OPC, or related building automation protocols
- Hands-on experience fault-finding BMS systems and tuning control loops
- Confident using Workbench, BajaScript, or equivalent controls software
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Full UK driving licence (where site visits are required)
- Exposure to nHaystack / Project Haystack, MQTT, REST APIs, or cloud analytics
- Background in commissioning HVAC plant, pumps, valves, boilers, or heat pumps
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Grafana, Power BI, or Trend Hub
- Relevant qualifications in Building Services, Controls, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
