About The Role

This is the time for action - we need to move at pace and reform our energy system - to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

We are looking for a senior engineer with a strong technical engineering background to support the design and development of the electricity transmission network of the future. This role is targeted at an individual who is focused on applying practical engineering judgement which will be informed by prior operational, asset, or design experience, rather than a detailed power system study practitioner.

You will join National Grid and work closely with power system experts, supporting key power system decision making through technically robust analysis, engineering insight, and challenge. Your role is to connect system-level power considerations with practical project development and delivery, asset capability, operability, and deliverability.

The role sits at the interface between analytical assessment and practical engineering delivery. You will translate expert technical direction into clear, usable engineering outputs that support investment, design, and development decisions across the onshore and offshore transmission network in England and Wales. You will be at the forefront of delivering the network that will help to decarbonise a nation and help to leave our planet in a state where future generations can thrive.

This role is based in our Warwick office for at least one day per week, with hybrid working.

About You

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and interpret Cost‑Benefit Analyses (CBAs) to inform technical and commercial decision making.
  • Knowledge of coding and scripting (e.g. Python, SQL) to process, analyse, and automate data workflows beneficial.
  • A strong technical background in transmission network operation, design, commissioning, or asset management.
  • A strong working knowledge of power system analysis tools and their application to support real world network decisions.
  • Ability to provide sound engineering judgement without relying solely on detailed modelling work.
  • Experience working alongside specialist or subject matter experts.
What You'll Do
  • Carry out deep analytical reviews and apply operational, design, or asset knowledge to challenge and interpret power system analysis outputs.
  • Assist with the coordination and assurance of network power system studies.
  • Provide technically focused engineering guidance supporting network power system development activities.
  • Assist with the interpretation of power system study outcomes into practical engineering data for use in reports, briefing materials, projects and network operation.
  • Requirement to interpret results and provide as required detailed presentation of outcomes in a clear and concise manner.
  • Support identification, assessment, and escalation of technical and system risks.
What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £65,000 - dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
