Mechanical Estimator - Job Specification

Mechanical & Electrical Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Estimator to join our estimating team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical services estimates across a range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, residential, and heritage projects.

• Prepare detailed mechanical services estimates from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Review employer's requirements and identify any risks, exclusions or value engineering opportunities.
• Produce accurate take-offs for all aspects of mechanical services including: HVAC, Domestic water services, Above ground public health services, Heating systems, Renewable technologies where applicable, Process systems, Specialist Installations.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Build comprehensive cost plans using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Liaise with clients, consultants and supply chain partners during the tender process.
• Attend tender review meetings and contribute to bid strategy.
• Assist in preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation.
• Prepare qualifications, exclusions and assumptions to accompany tenders.
• Support handover meetings with the delivery team following successful bids.
• Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
• Keep up to date with current market rates, material costs and industry developments.

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within an M&E contractor.
• HNC/HND / Degree or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services.
• Proven experience managing projects and budgets.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documents.
• Commercially astute with a client friendly approach.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office:
  Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• High level of self‑motivation and organisational ability with drive and enthusiasm.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

• Experience of Design & Build projects.
• Knowledge of heritage and listed building projects.
• Experience using estimating software such as Cypher, Trimble Estimation, Ensign, or similar.
• Background knowledge of electrical systems allowing interface with electrical estimators.
• Understanding of BIM processes.
• Training in such subject areas as Client / Customer Service, Asbestos Awareness, First Aid, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Quality and Plant.
• DBS and Police Security Clearance.

• Salary:
  Circa £50-£60K dependant on experience.
• Company Car / Allowance.
• Pension after qualifying period.
• Membership of Westfield Health Level One Scheme.
• 25 days annual leave plus Statutory.
