Overview
Principal Electronic Engineer (or Electrical Engineer with strong electronics design experience) to lead and inspire a small development team. Strong background in electrical or electronic design for demanding vehicle or industrial environments, including sensor and instrumentation design or broader vehicle electronics and systems integration experience at OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
This role is with a globally operating manufacturer of precision fluid level sensing systems, part of a large multinational group with facilities across the UK, USA, Europe and Asia. The company delivers products to heavy vehicle and off-road environments in construction, agriculture, heavy truck, mining and industrial markets. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.
The Role:
- Lead, mentor and inspire a small team of development engineers, driving them forward and helping them meet development timelines.
- Contribute to the architecture and development of next-generation liquid level sensing systems for heavy vehicle and off-road environments.
- Support electrical and electronic design across the product lifecycle, from architecture and signal conditioning through to validation and production launch.
- Deliver robust, high-performance designs for extreme environments including wide temperature ranges, high vibration, mechanical shock, EMI/EMC noise and chemical contamination.
- Drive product development execution ensuring engineering rigour across architecture, design, prototyping, validation and production readiness.
- Operate within automotive-grade development processes including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, DV/PV validation and IATF 16949.
- A natural leader with the ability to engage, motivate and drive a small engineering team forward.
- Strong background in electrical or electronic design engineering, either sensor and instrumentation products or broader vehicle/industrial electronics and systems integration.
- Deep expertise in analogue and mixed signal circuit design.

- Demonstrated ability to design electrical or electronic systems for harsh operating environments including wide temperature ranges, high vibration and industrial exposure.
- Familiarity with automotive-grade quality processes including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA and IATF 16949.
- Hands-on prototyping skills including PCB assembly and troubleshooting.
- Experience in heavy vehicle, construction, agricultural or off-highway equipment markets is highly desirable.
- Embedded firmware development in C/C++ and automotive communication protocols including CAN and LIN.
- EMI/EMC robust design and compliance.
- Degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- £70,000 to £80,000 per annum.
- Relocation package available for the right candidate.
- 25 days holiday annually.
- Company pension scheme.
- Life assurance.
- A genuine leadership role with global product impact across construction, agriculture, mining and commercial vehicle markets.
