At Tata Technologies, we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering, and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Thermal Design Engineer role.
THE ROLEWe are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Thermal Systems to support the design and development of automotive thermal system components from concept through to production release. The role will be responsible for delivering robust, manufacturable and cost-effective designs, working closely with Thermal Systems, CAE, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Programme, Quality and other engineering functions. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of their assigned components, ensuring that design, packaging, interfaces, manufacturability, timing and technical requirements are managed throughout the product development lifecycle.
A strong understanding of automotive development processes and component lead times is essential, with the ability to identify timing risks early and plan design activities accordingly.
- Design and develop automotive cooling system components and assemblies
- Develop concepts from initial requirements through to detailed design and production release
- Translate system-level thermal and packaging requirements into robust component designs
- Consider:
- Packaging and installation constraints | Working knowledge
- Thermal performance | Working knowledge
- Structural integrity | Strong working knowledge
- Vibration and durability | Strong working knowledge
- Serviceability | Strong working knowledge
- Manufacturing feasibility | Strong working knowledge
- Cost and weight | Working knowledge
- Component and vehicle interfaces | Strong working knowledge
- Component and vehicle interfaces | Strong working knowledge
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, specifications and programme requirements
- Support design reviews and technical gateways
- Create and maintain high-quality 3D CAD models and assemblies using CATIA V6 / 3
DEXPERIENCE (3DX) - Produce and maintain engineering drawings, specifications and associated design documentation
- Manage design data in accordance with company and programme configuration-management processes
- Apply appropriate GD&T, datum strategies and tolerance principles
- Ensure CAD models are correctly structured and suitable for downstream engineering, manufacturing and supplier activities
Experience with relevant components such as the following is desirable:
- Pipes and hoses
- Expansion tanks
- Cooling modules
- Fans and fan shrouds
- HVAC e-Compressor
- Brackets, supports and associated hardware
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure designs are feasible within the intended manufacturing process
- Identify manufacturing constraints early in the design process
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
- Understand the implications of manufacturing processes such as Injection moulding, Aluminium casting, Machining, Welding/brazing etc..
The Senior Design Engineer is expected to understand the relationship between design maturity, supplier lead time, tooling and programme timing They should proactively highlight situations where design maturity, drawing release or engineering changes could impact supplier tooling, prototype delivery, vehicle builds or production timing.
