About the Role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is looking for a Tax Associate to support our tax compliance objectives. The role is based in Warwick and offers hybrid working. It is part of the CFO function, which is transitioning to a fully digital platform. We do not require prior energy sector or public sector experience; we value alignment with NESO’s values and tax expertise.
KeyAccountabilities
- Support the Senior Tax Manager in ensuring adherence to NESO’s Tax Policy.
- Maintain appropriate tax governance policies and processes to identify and minimise tax risk.
- Assist in moving the CFO function towards full digitalisation.
- Build strong relationships across NESO, acting as a trusted advisor on tax matters to the Business, especially the Regulation team.
- Maintain good external relationships with HMRC, DESNZ and Ofgem, including responding to enquiries.
- Provide tax‑specific information for the notes to the Annual Report & Accounts, ensuring accurate representation of NESO’s tax position.
- Help create new processes for tax compliance, leveraging the new ‘Workday’ ERP system.
- Operate effective controls around all aspects of the tax process and suggest continuous improvement opportunities.
- Manage any outsourced contracts, ensuring expertise remains in‑house.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment; visa sponsorship may not be available.
- Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification with active membership, or relevant accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA) desirable.
- Post‑qualification experience in UK tax (VAT, corporation tax, employment taxes or a combination).
- Ability to communicate technical tax matters to a wider audience.
- Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills for internal and external relationships.
- Displays a ‘can‑do’ attitude, looking for continuous improvement opportunities to support the CFO function’s digitalisation.
- Competitive salary of £60,000 – £65,000, dependent on experience and capability.
- Annual performance‑based bonus.
