Job Description & How to Apply Below

Job purpose

Reporting to the Group Head of Strategy, this role is responsible for ensuring strategic objectives are aligned with financial planning, capital allocation, regulatory commitments, and operational delivery.

After a strategic review across the business, we have reshaped this role and the teams in this area, moving away from roles focussing on either our US or UK businesses, and towards a more company-wide approach. Whilst continuing to interact with our various business units, and other senior leaders across a range of functions, the person in post will need to bring an enterprise-wide perspective, and be comfortable operating with ambiguity and uncertainty.

This person will partner closely with Finance, Regulation, and Executive Leadership teams, acting as a bridge between long-term strategy and business performance. We are looking for a strong and visible people leader who can build a high-performing, engaged team, develop talent, and foster collaboration across functions, whilst ensuring strategic insight has a visible role in supporting executive and board-level decision‑making.

Key accountabilities

Enterprise Strategy & Planning

  • Support the development and refresh of the Group's enterprise strategy and strategic priorities
  • Lead strategic planning processes, ensuring alignment between corporate objectives, business plans, financial forecasts, and regulatory commitments
  • Drive enterprise prioritisation across competing initiatives, investments, and transformation programmes

Strategy & Finance Integration

  • Partner closely with Group Finance to align strategic priorities with budgeting, long-range financial planning, and capital allocation processes
  • Support development of enterprise investment cases, scenario modelling, and strategic performance analysis
  • Ensure strategic initiatives are supported by clear financial rationale, benefits tracking, and value delivery metrics
  • Contribute to Board, ExCo, and investor materials relating to strategic performance and future planning

Strategic Performance & Portfolio Oversight

  • Monitor execution of strategic priorities and track enterprise performance against agreed objectives
  • Support governance and oversight of key transformation and strategic initiatives across the Group
  • Drive consistency in strategic reporting, planning disciplines, and enterprise performance management

Leadership, Innovation & Enterprise Contribution

  • Act as a senior leader within the broader Group Strategy function, contributing to leadership priorities beyond immediate role remit
  • Support the development of enterprise strategic capabilities including innovation, market analytics, external insight, and strategic thought leadership
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration across Strategy, Finance, Regulation, Operations, Sustainability, and Technology teams

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing strategy team, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Coach and mentor team members, supporting capability development and succession planning across the strategy function
  • Create an inclusive and engaging team environment that encourages innovation, diverse thinking, and professional growth

Market, Regulatory & Sector Insight

  • Monitor developments across the UK energy sector, including regulation, energy transition policy, infrastructure investment, and market reform
  • Support strategic assessments relating to decarbonisation, network resilience, digitalisation, and customer transformation
  • Provide insight and analysis to support executive decision-making and future enterprise positioning

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong working relationships across Finance, Regulation, Operations, Sustainability, and business unit leadership teams
  • Support strategic discussions with regulators, investors, and external stakeholders where appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with the Growth Strategy Lead to ensure alignment between growth opportunities and enterprise priorities
Candidate profile
  • Strong experience across corporate strategy, enterprise planning, finance strategy, and transformation
  • Able to bring together strategy and finance, a strong strategic relationship-builder
  • A track record of creating and leading high-performing, engaged teams, adept at delivering through teams, and creating a collaborative environment
  • A background of working at ExCo and Board level
  • Experience working in regulated sectors, and in corporate environments
