Job Description & How to Apply Below

Supporting projects in the early phases of BP500 (Optioneering and Development), you will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and take responsibility for maximising the commercial performance of our Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) Framework to deliver value across a portfolio of transmission infrastructure projects. Working in Portfolio Strategy and Development (PS&D), you will ensure value for money for consumers while operating within the regulatory framework, managing commercial risk, and supporting the successful development of National Grid's ambitious investment programme.

Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, helping to shape commercial strategies and contractual arrangements that will support the development of critical energy infrastructure through to 2030 and beyond.

What You'll Do
  • Reporting to the Director of PMO, establish the Commercial capability within PS&D through the formation of a new team.
  • Lead commercial development of infrastructure projects from the creation of the contract strategy, option selection, and development phases, through to handover to delivery.
  • Support the allocation of FEED contracts (NEC 3/NEC4), ensuring effective cost control, risk management, and value optimisation.
  • Manage FEED performance for PS&D, setting up the right forums and channels to ensure strategic performance discussions as portfolio level, whilst also working at project level to enable the timely resolution and close-out of issues and escalations.
  • Lead decision-making and regular FEED performance reporting to senior leaders and Exec.
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders including procurement, delivery and legal, to drive successful project outcomes.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting both performance and professional growth.
You will be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record of delivering value within large, complex organisations, ideally across major infrastructure programmes including the design and development phases. Combining commercial expertise with strong stakeholder management skills, you will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where collaboration, influence and strategic thinking are key.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a commercial, quantity surveying or financial management role, ideally on the design and development of major infrastructure projects, using NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, with experience managing contracts, costs, and risk.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, able to collaborate, influence and think strategically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading and developing teams, including those working across multiple locations.
  • An understanding of commercial strategy and financial planning within a regulated or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of the UK energy sector or transmission infrastructure would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • An appreciation of procurement processes and regulatory requirements and how these impact project delivery and commercial decisions.
  • Experience in senior level engagement and reporting
