Advanced Cardiac Physiologist Cardiac Rhythm Management

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Advanced Cardiac Physiologist to join our forward‑thinking Cardiology team. The role encompasses Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and catheter lab services, supporting pacemakers, CRTs, ICDs, S‑ICDs, Micras, and conduction system pacing. Responsibilities include complex implants, device follow‑up, service development and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership in cardiac rhythm management service including remote monitoring services, working alongside other physiologist leads to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service. Supervise and train junior team members and wider staff groups as required. Refresh and extend own clinical skills, participate in service development and research, and work predominantly at the Warwick site.

Key Result Areas:

Clinical/Technical Duties

  • Participate in the provision of cardiac rhythm management including remote monitoring service and technical invasive cardiology service and assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within the angiography suite.
  • Maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non‑invasive).
  • Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to cardiac/life‑threatening emergency situations, maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
  • Identify equipment faults and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Provide first‑line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests, and review studies performed by junior staff.
  • Remain up‑to‑date with latest trends in clinical physiology and translate these into practice.
  • Assist with research studies as required and ensure all patients receive appropriate, individualised care.
  • Undertake service provision and/or training in other areas of Clinical Physiology, as required.

Training, Teaching and Research Responsibilities

  • Participate with MDT, cardiology research, performing clinical trials, audit and equipment testing.
  • Involved in training of junior team and other staff members.
  • Support training of internal and external students pursuing a career in Cardiology.
  • Commit to continual professional development through self‑directed learning and relevant courses and qualifications.
  • Develop areas of interest within the department and participate in the Trust appraisal process.

Care for Patients and/or Service Users

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and calibrated, and rectify faults promptly.
  • Interact with patients and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain Trust standards and monitor quality of care.
  • Actively maintain a safe, clean working environment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team supporting patients, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Co‑operate with Trust regulations and statutory requirements.

Planning and Organisation

Good planning and organisational skills to manage own and clinics daily work schedules, ensure correct staff, equipment and stock control of consumables.

Communication

  • Good written and verbal communication skills with awareness of handling sensitive information.
  • Effective communication with the team and all levels of personnel.
  • Effective communication with patients where there may be barriers to understanding.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • Intermediate Life Support Skills
  • Heart Research UK or International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners in Devices or Electrophysiology
  • Advanced Life Support
  • RCCP or equivalent registration
  • Post‑grad Studies in relevant field
Desirable
  • Teaching certificate / Assessors Award
Experience Essential
  • High level of specialist knowledge in areas of non‑invasive cardiology, equivalent to that of master's level.
  • Extensive experience in physiological investigations.
