Pay or shift range: $96,000 – $144,000 USD. The range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job‑related reasons.
DescriptionQualifications Overview: College degree or equivalent work experience in a related job function. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in timber/log appraisal and buying activities, and hands‑on logging supervision in all harvest systems. Familiarity with manufacturing economics and mill log quality needs. Strong organizational, analytical, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of supervisory and management techniques, legal contracts, policies, procedures, and systems.
Team‑ and customer‑oriented. Proficiency in computer software, log accounting systems (LIMS), and ability to use these systems. Knowledge of Best Management Practices and environmental regulations. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Must be a licensed registered forester.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all log procurement and coordination with log yard management; ensure a steady supply of logs to mills.
- Implement the Company’s policies, procedures, and management actions to ensure compliance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard (SFIS), third‑party certification, on‑product label application, and Chain‑of‑Custody system certification requirements.
- Communicate the Company’s SFI commitment and promote sustainable forestry to employees, wood producers, and suppliers.
- Monitor, analyze, and report product delivery data and specifications.
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
- Develop short‑ and long‑term strategies to maintain market advantages over competitors.
- Manage, coordinate, and administer log deliveries, harvesting operations, log procurement, log inventories, timber tract purchase and delivery.
- Analyze timber data and assign values based on size, quality, competition, and logistics.
- Coordinate efforts to maximize value of resources and procurement efforts.
- Serve as effective team leader and facilitator for mills and regional operations; hire, train, and manage staff performance.
- Procure, source, negotiate, and purchase logs from federal, state, tribal, and private lands; manage log flow and raw‑material utilization.
- Sell excess and non‑usable/non‑profitable logs to external customers.
- Crush, appraise, and recommend stumpage purchases; develop forecasts, budgets, and operational plans for log deliveries; plan logging schedules.
- Represent the company in government and public meetings, and participate in political activities to ensure adequate log volume.
- Participate in tree marking, land clearing, site preparation, and road and bridge maintenance as needed.
- Assist in day‑to‑day log yard operations and inventory.
- Coordinate with log accounting and contractors to ensure accurate contract management.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
- Support the strategy of best‑in‑class/low‑cost manufacturing by executing and communicating wood procurement strategy.
- Own residual management and fuel purchases.
- Understand G‑wood relationship to logs and procure accordingly.
- Build and maintain effective internal and external relationships with plants, customers, and suppliers.
- Maintain effective inventories to support rotation and understand cash‑flow impacts.
- Be actively involved and aware of plant operations relative to wood consumption and recoveries.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Salary Range: $96,000 – $144,000 depending on experience.
