Audience Editor, Midwest – Eater – Chicago, IL (Remote)

Pay: $73,000 – $78,000 per year.

• Produce, edit, and distribute social video, with enthusiasm and creativity.
• Identify, develop sources, and report on the dynamic Midwest food scene — with a focus on Chicago.
• Write and edit clean and engaging copy for both Eater’s website and social platforms, with an understanding of how tone and visuals differ across platforms (Instagram, Reels, Facebook, Threads, Tik Tok, Blue Sky, and others).
• Engage with audiences across social media, newsletters, and Reddit, responding to comments, fostering conversation, and maintaining brand voice.
• Manage newsletter programs under the direction and strategy of Dining Editorial Manager, including building newsletters in Sailthru and Substack, adapting editorial content for newsletters, basic analytical skills, and inbox management.
• Willingness and ability to dine out for work-related research, including outside of work hours.

• Plugged into the Chicago food scene with a knack for identifying engaging restaurant news stories and trends.
• Proficient in Photoshop to create visually engaging carousels and high-touch social media posts.
• Skilled in executing social video including confidence and poise appearing on camera.
• Familiar with audience-focused storytelling on a variety of platforms (Instagram, Tik Tok, Substack, etc.).
• Comfortable with taste making, which will be used to update and/or edit maps, research and write dining reports, etc.
• Able to break news and write insightful service-oriented features with accuracy about your region’s dining scene; comfortable working with a PR rep as well as connecting with restaurant owners.
• Experience editing news and service coverage is a plus.
• Welcomes feedback and adapts quickly to put ideas and edits into practice.

This is a permanent, full-time position. Benefits-eligible. The role is part of the Vox Media Union, represented by the Writers Guild of America, East.
