Job Overview
The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum combine global textile collections numbering some 25,000 artworks with the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection documenting the establishment of Washington, D.C. as a national capital. Exhibitions and educational programs take place at the public museum on 21st and G Streets, supported by a state‑of‑the‑art collections care facility on GW's Ashburn campus. The museum is AAM accredited.
The museum seeks applications for the Museum Digital Communications & Visitor Experience Specialist position, which plays a vital role in engaging audiences onsite and online. This position guides student workers in implementing communications strategies across digital channels and supports smooth front‑of‑house operations that create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all visitors. The position reports to the Manager of Museum Marketing, Communications & Visitor Experience.
ResponsibilitiesDigital Communications
- Create, edit and schedule original content for the museum's digital platforms, including websites, emails, blogs and social channels.
- Support student workers on digital media projects.
- Remain up to date on digital media best practices and trends, and pitch creative concepts for new initiatives, influencer outreach and campaigns.
- Develop, maintain and analyze key metrics for all museum digital platforms.
- Maintain museum public areas and way finding, and coordinate with GW facilities, security and museum staff to support a clean, safe and organized environment for visitors.
- Serve as the main liaison for front‑of‑house student workers, including organizing trainings and scheduling shifts.
- Support communications and visitor experience for the Artisans Gallery, as needed.
- Evaluate visitor feedback and advance improvements to the onsite experience and additional support as needed.

The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which governs wages, benefits, and working conditions.
- High school diploma or GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study.
- Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
- Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with ability to deliver creative content.
- Organized with high quality standards and meticulous attention to detail.
- Comfort using social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Linked In.
- Successful experience coordinating projects or people, especially students.
- Diplomacy and creative problem‑solving skills under pressure.
- Demonstrated interest in museums, art, history or world cultures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google platforms and design/image‑editing software.
