Med Star Health is seeking an experienced full-time Critical Care Physician Assistant at Med Star Washington Hospital Center. $20,000 Sign-On Bonus Available!
Med Star Washington Hospital Center, located in the heart of our nation’s capital, is seeking an experienced PA to work in one of our six ICUs. We are a teaching hospital with over 900 beds that is a major referral center in the area for medically complex cases. We are a Level I trauma center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, in the top 5% of cardiac surgery programs in the country as well an ECMO referral center.
In this role, critical care PAs work autonomously but collaboratively with intensive care physicians and a large multidisciplinary care team to provide high quality and cost-effective care to patients in critical condition. We have positions available in both the heart and vascular units as well as general SICU/MICU units. The heart and vascular units include, but are not limited to, patients in cardiac surgery, advanced heart failure including mechanical circulatory devices, vascular surgery and medical cardiac patients.
The SICU/MICU patients include, but are not limited to, patients in general surgery, and surgical subspecialties such as neurosurgery, trauma, thoracic, plastics, and orthopedics, as well as medical patients.
Duties include:
- Perform history and physical examination of patients.
- Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
- Initiate and manage appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, and acid-base disturbances and renal failure.
- Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants.
- Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous, non-tunneled dialysis, and arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis.
- Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
- Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate.

- Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program
- NCCPA (physician assistant) certified
- BLS and ACLS certifications
- Required:
1 or more years as an advanced practice provider in intensive care, cardiac surgery, or cardiology.
