Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine (Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine) – Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) is a leading academic and research institution located in Washington, DC. Established in 1789, GUMC supports research, teaching and patient care, with a mission grounded in cura personalis—care of the whole person. The Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine engages in community outreach, collaboration, and translational research in partnership with Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and the Med Star Health System.

Position

Description & Responsibilities Clinical Duties

The candidate will provide clinical care and attend services at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital. Responsibilities include outpatient infectious diseases clinic and inpatient infectious diseases (general , immunocompromised host, and transplant ) care, and fulfilling core faculty duties of teaching, consulting, and patient care.

Research Duties

The ideal candidate will combine strong clinical expertise with experience using large clinical and observational datasets for research. Responsibilities include participation in the Georgetown University HIV cohort studies, MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study, and STAR study of young women with and at risk for HIV, leading the hospitalization ascertainment component. The candidate is expected to develop a research portfolio focusing on neurocognition, comorbidities among people with HIV, and their effects on long‑term outcomes.

A robust background in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and translational research using ICD‑9/10 codes, evidenced by publications, is required. The candidate will also become actively involved in the DC Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR), supporting the mission of advancing HIV research in the District of Columbia.

  • Demonstrated publication record relevant to the position
  • Demonstrated record of early‑stage and pilot grants
  • Commitment to teaching and scholarship that are prerequisites to advancement
  • Commitment to service within the medical center and University
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary collaborations relevant to the position
