The Team:

Regulatory Research Associates (RRA) delivers authoritative research and analysis on state-level gas and power regulation and utility financial performance. Our work centers on understanding regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and investor risk across the U.S. energy sector. We provide clients with data-driven insights and comparative evaluations of regulatory environments, enabling informed decisions in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Responsibilities and Impact:

As an Analyst, you will play a key role in monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting state regulatory developments affecting power and gas utilities. Your research will inform investors, utilities, and energy developers on regulatory risk and market trends. By leveraging proprietary datasets and advanced analytical tools, you will contribute to differentiated, high-value reports and insights that shape strategic decisions across the energy value chain.

This role plays a crucial part in S&P Global's vision of the “Research of the Future”, where innovation and advanced analytics define the next generation of insights and decision-making.

  • Research and analyze state regulatory environments
    , including rate case decisions, policy changes, and commission activities.
  • Maintain and enhance proprietary regulatory databases
    , ensuring timely and accurate data entry.
  • Track and interpret industry trends
    , including energy policies and emerging regulatory mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with other teams to produce best-in-class reports, comparative evaluations, and investor-focused insights
    .
  • Demonstrate a willingness to experiment with new technologies to optimize workflows and deliver superior client value.
  • Build relationships with regulators, utility representatives, and industry experts to support research depth and accuracy.
Compensation/Benefits Information (U.S. candidates only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business, engineering, or related fields
    .
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    ; ability to synthesize complex regulatory and financial data.
  • Proficiency in Excel and database management
    ; advanced experience in programming languages (Python, SQL) and AI tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    ; ability to produce clear, concise research for professional audiences.
