You Are

Versar Global Solutions is seeking a Sr. Instrument Control Technician who will report to the Power Plant Manager; reporting structure may change based on assignment requirements.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve under the direction of Power Plant Manager to operate and maintain power plant equipment;
  • Promote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and procedures;
  • Work as part of electrical teams or line crews to perform routine installation maintenance, and repairs on electrical power control equipment, high voltage switch gear, distribution networks, or diesel power generators;
  • Report to the Plant Manager on all special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service. Anticipate unscheduled load changes, and detect early indications of equipment malfunctions in order to maintain continuous service;
  • Troubleshoot and overhaul, rebuild, or make comparable major repairs to Gensets, powered support systems, vehicles, and other major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components);
  • Assist in the control and distribution of the mechanical and electrical makeup and operation of powered support systems such as those described above, including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components;
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines (e.g., overhauling those of 3 to 16 cylinders and up to 2MW of power);
  • Gear and govern components for controlling, changing, or transferring speed and power;
  • Assist in maintaining electrical power through the power plant and primary distribution system, and in the operation of the central switchboard to actuate controlled circuit breakers, transformers, and switches in order to regulate and maintain proper voltage on the distribution lines;
  • When malfunctions occur, assist to isolate and bypass the fault in order to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintained;
  • Ensure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized High Voltage Networks or Switchgear;
  • Execute the company’s policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network in NS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba;
  • As directed by the Senior Plant Manager.
Plant Operator Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitors the distribution of electric power to various distribution points;
  • Operates switchboard controls to adjust controlled circuit breakers, transformers, and switches to regulate and maintain proper voltage on the distribution lines and at the power generation plant;
  • Bring Generators online, parallel generators, and bring generators offline;
  • Report abnormal operating conditions and reroute power through alternate feeders to user areas in case of emergency cutouts or extensive scheduled repair;
  • Notifies repair crews of the location of failure and assures that circuits are open and tagged before work is started;
  • Keeps an hourly log of meter readings and records shutdowns, connection and disconnection of circuits, and similar occurrences.
What You’ll Bring
  • Two years of experience operating power plants;
  • Two years relay calibration and repair;
  • Experience in medium to large scale O&M prime power diesel gensets (50–60-liter engines);
  • Experienced working with other technical staff;
