Your Future Team
We are looking for a detail-oriented Junior Research Analyst to join our investment team Farr, Miller & Washington a Hightower Company in the Washington, DC metro area or New York City metro area. You will support our wealth management and portfolio management teams by conducting investment research, analyzing market trends, and assisting with portfolio construction and client reporting. You will have a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a passion for capital markets and wealth management.
What You'll Do
Investment Research & Analysis Conduct:
- Fundamental research on individual securities including equities, fixed income, and alternative investments.
- Analyze company financial statements, earnings reports, and industry trends. Monitor portfolio holdings and provide regular updates on material news, performance, and market developments.
- Help develop investment theses and drafting internal research reports.
- Track and analyze market trends, economic indicators, and sector performance.
- Support portfolio managers with data gathering, analysis, and trade execution preparation.
- Assist with portfolio rebalancing, tax ‑ loss harvesting analysis, and capital gains management.
- Maintain and update investment models, screening tools, and research dashboards.
- Help evaluate new investment strategies and opportunities.
- Participate in investment committee meetings and contribute research insights.
- Prepare client‑ready investment commentary and performance reports.
- Help create quarterly investment presentations and market updates.
- Help develop client proposals and investment policy statements.
- Maintain and update research databases and investment documentation.
Operational & Team Support:
- Collaborate with operations to ensure accurate portfolio data and reporting.
- Assist with CRM data entry and maintenance related to investment activities.
- Support implementation and enhancement of research and portfolio management technology.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects for research processes.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in investment research, financial analysis, or a related role.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis.
- Experience with financial statements and valuation methodologies.
- CFA Level I candidate or completion of CFA Level I exam (exceptions could be made for proper candidate).
- Experience with Bloomberg Terminal, Fact Set, Morningstar, or similar research platforms.
- Familiarity with portfolio management software and CRM systems. (Salesforce, Tamarac)
- Understanding of tax‑efficient investing strategies.
- Previous internship or work experience at an RIA, investment firm, or financial institution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective organizational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment.
- Series 65 license or willingness to obtain within 60–90 days of hire.
