Location : Pentagon - Washington DC (Onsite)

SUMMARY :

The Fire Inspector position will support the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Services in the National Capital Region, with a focus on the Pentagon Reservation and Fort Belvoir Mark Center Campus. A Fire Inspector must have knowledge of methods, principles, practices, techniques, procedures, and equipment related to fire prevention activities, especially regarding various codes and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspect buildings to identify hazardous conditions and fire code violations.
  • Determine and explain corrective actions needed to ensure compliance with fire codes, laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Inspect and test fire protection and detection systems to verify proper installation according to laws, codes, and standards.
  • Follow up on fire code compliance to ensure violations are corrected.
  • Document fire inspections, violations, and recommendations in detailed reports.
  • Attend training to stay updated on fire prevention, safety, and firefighting procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required related to this job description.
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS / QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or GED; at least four (4) years of related experience preferred.
    • Fire Inspector certifications (I, II, III) are preferred.
    • Knowledge of building construction, fire protection features, and characteristics.
    • Understanding of code requirements, regulations, and fire hazards.
    • Familiarity with equipment used in fire inspections and code enforcement.
    • Knowledge of fire ground operations and site planning review.
    • Ability to enforce codes and correct hazards identified during inspections.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in using related equipment, computers, software, and office machinery.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and bending are required.
    • Physically demanding tasks involving lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 lbs, and performing activities such as reaching, bending, and crouching.
    • Exposure to elements like heat, humidity, weather, loud noise, and pathogens.
    • Work is performed indoors and outdoors, including building inspections and exterior property assessments.
