SummaryTherapeutic Radiologic Technologist position is in the Radiation Oncology section at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. Technologists at this level must be able to carry out their assigned tasks independently in all areas of radiation therapy and must possess a minimum of four years clinical TRT experience.
Qualifications- United States Citizenship requirement (non‑citizens only under specific conditions).
- Education:
Successful completion of an accredited 12‑month therapeutic radiologic technology program; associate’s degree or higher preferred. - Certification:
Must be certified in therapeutic radiologic technology by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy (ARRT (T)). - Experience:
At least one year of experience at the next lower grade level (GS‑09) and demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in independent machine warm‑up, patient chart review, CT simulation, LINAC QA, and treatment delivery. - Preferred: 5 years of radiation‑therapy experience and a bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy.
- Deliver radiation treatments independently across a range of modalities including linear accelerator, IMRT, SBRT, and CBCT.
- Operate and troubleshoot complex equipment such as Varian True Beam, ARIA, and electronic portal imaging systems.
- Perform quality assurance procedures on radiation therapy equipment and CT scanners before daily business hours.
- Schedule simulation, planning, and treatment procedures and coordinate with patients, families, and staff.
- Provide patient education on radiation safety and psychosocial aspects of cancer care.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in electronic medical records.
- Assist with emergency on‑call treatments as required.
- Other duties, as assigned, consistent with the full performance level of GS‑10.
- Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, and hand‑over‑hand pushing for up to 2 hours.
- Reaching above shoulder level, walking, standing and crawling for up to 5 hours.
- Repeated bending and rapid manual coordination.
- Depth perception, color discrimination, and emotional and mental stability.
