Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects, pre‑authorizations, etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions ensuring accurate input labeling and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns, ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff, resolving issues requiring management intervention and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations.
• Performs final check on all completed prescriptions verifying the accuracy of input labeling and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs and prescription files.
• Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interactions and contraindications; handles DURs, rejects, pre‑authorizations, etc.; communicates with third‑party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage reimbursement, etc.
• Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe, prompt and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx’s requiring pre‑authorizations and discusses alternatives as appropriate.
• Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a patient‑by‑patient basis.
• Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi‑disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

• Licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland or District of Columbia (DC) – required.

• 1–2 years pharmacy experience, preferably in retail – required.

• PHARMD – Licensed Pharmacist, current Maryland or DC pharmacist license including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that state or district – required.
• CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days – required.
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of USD $49.32 – $94.70 / Yr.
