Navajo Preference Employment Act

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist I/II / Advanced Occupational Therapist I/II position serves to provide quality occupational therapy services to a predominantly Native American population for the rehabilitation of patients with various developmental, cognitive and/or mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy. Responsible for assessing and interpreting evaluation/s and test results for patients ranging in age from birth through geriatric;

determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription and setting realistic treatment goals depending on the patient’s physical, mental abilities, needs, and evaluation findings and/or diagnosis and documenting in electronic health records (EHR); evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modification to therapy plan; promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to the patient’s goals and needs;

maintains the operation and organization of the Occupational Therapy program for outpatients and inpatients (regular work week, weekend services not available at this time, and depending on location of clinic-TCRHCC or SPHC); documentation of patient care services by charting in patients records; provision of specialty services to include but not limited to custom orthoses, sensory integration, cognitive treatment, activities of daily living;

provision of specialty clinics (depending on location of clinic) including but not limited to Spinal Cord clinic, Functional clinic, Geriatric clinic, Assistive Technology/adaptive equipment evaluation/treatment, Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetic Orthotic Supply Program; assists with direction and development of the occupational therapy service to include continued quality improvement, risk management and safety; complies with federal, and state occupational therapy certification requirements and follow TCHRCC policy and procedures;

complies with the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Occupational Therapy Profession-Scope of Practice as set forth by the American Occupational Therapy Association; provide training and in-services for student and staff education; consult with rehabilitation team, and other health care workers (e.g., physician, nurses, social workers, etc.); and other duties. Responsibilities also include maintaining Medical Staff Credentialing Core Privileges.

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education (Occupational Therapist I/II & Advanced Occupational Therapist I/II):

  • Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association's Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

Licensure (Occupational Therapist I/II & Advanced Occupational Therapist I/II):

  • Applicant must possess a valid, current, full and unrestricted license from the American Occupational Therapy Association and Arizona Department of Health Licensure or in any state within the United States, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or eligible for licensure in Occupational Therapy in State of Arizona.
  • Must have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
