Job Description
Large law firm seeks Benefits Specialist in the Washington, DC area. The Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in the administration and delivery of the firm’s comprehensive employee benefits programs, specifically in short-term, long-term leave tracking and administering in addition to wellness initiatives. This position supports a large and diverse employee population and requires a high degree of professionalism, accuracy, discretion, and technical expertise.
The ideal candidate will bring strong benefits knowledge, experience in a fast‐paced professional services environment, and a service‐oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administers health and welfare benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and flexible spending accounts.
- Manages leave of absence administration and coordination with payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems.
- Coordinates benefits administration for new hires, status changes, and separations.
- Supports annual open enrollment for a large, multi‐state workforce, including system configuration, communications, vendor coordination, and testing.
- Partners with senior HR leadership on benefits strategy, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supports benefits‐related projects including vendor transitions, system enhancements, and regulatory updates.
Serves as a trusted resource by responding to complex benefits inquiries with discretion and professionalism.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five years of progressive benefits administration experience, preferably in a law firm or large professional services environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration systems; advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of complex benefit plans and regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting high‐volume, high‐touch employee populations.
- Exceptional attention to detail, judgment, and ability to manage confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a polished, professional presence.
- Experience in a multi‐office, multi‐state law firm environment, strongly preferred.
This is an onsite role, in office five days a week.
