Relman Colfax PLLC is a national civil rights law firm, with a litigation practice focused on combating discrimination and obtaining equity, including in the areas of housing, lending, employment, public accommodations, education, and police accountability. We conduct internal investigations and provide counseling regarding consumer protection, privacy, lending, employment, whistle blower, and federal regulatory matters. Our practice also includes analysis and strategy regarding public policy issues and proposed legislation affecting civil rights.

The Role

Relman Colfax PLLC is currently hiring candidates to begin a two-year bilingual civil rights paralegal position in June 2026. Term-time paralegals support attorneys in both the civil rights litigation and counseling practice groups at Relman Colfax. This is an entry‑level job, and we are seeking candidates with a dedication to civil rights and an interest in learning more about the litigation process.

This position is compensated at the annual rate of $55,000 for the first term year, $60,000 for the first six months of the second term year, and $65,000 for the last six months of the second term year. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position that receives overtime pay when overtime is necessary.

Applications are considered and offers are made on a rolling basis, so applicants are encouraged to apply early in the process. We expect that hiring will be completed by April 1, 2026, and some or all positions may be filled before that time.

Note:

This job is primarily an in‑office position and requires the candidate to move to the Washington, D.C. area by the June 2026 start date.

General Responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting factual investigations, research, and discovery
  • Communicate with clients, potential clients, witnesses, and relevant parties
  • Perform document and file management for case teams
  • Perform administrative tasks (note‑taking, calendaring, scanning, mailings, etc.)
  • Support review of client and case documents
  • Support attorneys in preparation, finalization, and filing of legal briefs and client presentations, and at trial
  • Assist with analysis of statistical data to assess discriminatory impactof policies, programs, and other activities
  • Attend strategy sessions, client meetings, depositions, hearing, and trials on an as‑needed basis; and
  • Perform other support tasks as assigned

Bilingual Paralegal Responsibilities

Relman Colfax at times works with clients, prospective clients, members of a class in a class action, etc. who speak Spanish and who have limited proficiency in English. The Firm therefore seeks to hire a paralegal who is bilingual in English and Spanish, who will be expected to:

  • Review Spanish language intake submissions via online form, email, phone call, or voicemail;
  • Follow up with intakes via phone to gather information about their claims;
  • Act as a primary point of contact for Spanish‑speaking clients, informing them about case developments, explaining legal concepts, and relaying client questions to monolingual attorneys;
  • Occasionally translate and/or proof Spanish documents.
