Oceana seeks a full-time paralegal to provide comprehensive legal support across two critical functions: (i) corporate governance and compliance and (ii) litigation support. This position will assist with contract review, compliance filings, litigation case management, file organization, and administrative tasks for the Legal Department.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrates meticulous attention to detail. Candidates must have prior litigation paralegal experience and an interest in corporate law and nonprofit management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The paralegal will report to the Senior Manager, Corporate Governance & Compliance and work closely with General Counsel on the following:

Corporate Counsel Functions:
  • Review and process contracts in coordination with the General Counsel for all offices and departments
  • Maintain and update Oceana’s Contract Life Cycle Management System in coordination with IT
  • Conduct state reporting for cause marketing agreements
  • Assist in compiling information for annual audits
  • Assist in state and federal lobbying reporting and registration
  • Organize and maintain corporate counsel files
Litigation Support Functions:
  • Provide litigation case management, including document review and filing support
  • Liaise with outside counsel and Legal Campaign Team on litigation matters
  • Maintain litigation calendars for filing deadlines, hearings, and related meetings
  • Assist with research and drafting of litigation-related documents
  • Organize and maintain case files
Administrative & Departmental Support:
  • Manage scheduling and calendaring for the Legal Department
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, interviews, and calls
  • Support departmental projects and perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of work experience as a paralegal, including litigation experience
Skills and knowledge:
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
    Salesforce experience is a plus
  • Experience conducting legal research
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams

The salary range for this position is $67,000 to $ 72,000 annually. This position is based in Washington, D.C. Oceana’s U.S. offices operate on a hybrid schedule and staff are required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work remotely Monday and Friday.
