As a Field Service Technician, you will perform preventive maintenance tasks on Varian Medical Systems (VMS) linear accelerator and imaging systems, ensuring that customers’ equipment operates efficiently. You will work in a designated field service region and represent VMS.
Responsibilities- Proactively perform periodic and preventative maintenance activities on Linear Accelerators and associated medical equipment outside of normal business hours per documented procedures.
- Manage time and maintain a daily/weekly schedule to effectively perform preventative maintenance on systems throughout the service region.
- Understand when to escalated incidents and/or request additional assistance from more tenured representatives or leadership.
- Maintain administrative duties, including timely completion and submission of field service work orders and expense reports and management of consignment (parts) and other required documentation according to VMS procedures.
- Communicate required follow‑up actions to the primary assigned representative.
- Excellent time management and professional communication skills, both internal to Varian and externally to customers.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships through written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
- Frequent use of technical documentation (electronic and paper), standards, principles, concepts and techniques in the field.
- Basic knowledge of electronic, electro‑mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and plumbing systems; familiarity with handheld test equipment such as a Digital Multimeter (DVM/DMM) and a Digital Oscilloscope.
- Basic technical experience with micro‑computers/PC‑based systems.
- Basic technical knowledge and experience with simple hand tools.
- Maintain Vendor Credentialing status and compliance with company and customer‑defined requirements necessary to gain site access (e.g., valid identification, background checks, drug screens, immunizations, annual TB testing and service‑specific training).
- Minimum: HS Degree or Equivalent;
Preferred:
Vocational training or military experience with electronics.
- Understand and utilize the escalation process to Field Service Representative, Management, Service Delivery and Support, Product Support Engineering, and Applications.
- Completion of all required VMS training classes for hardware preventive maintenance.
- Experience with business tools such as e‑mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with HCM (e.g., Workday) or equivalent ERP product and productivity software.
- Strong ability to manage customer expectations while building and maintaining positive relationships.
Candidate must live within close proximity or be willing to relocate to NYC, NY. This is a field‑based “remote” position that requires onsite work at several local customer locations.
