The Dialysis Nurse Manager is a registered nurse (RN) responsible for leading the clinical and operational management of both chronic and acute dialysis programs. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while overseeing nursing and support staff, managing day-to-day operations, and driving compliance with DC DOH, CMS, and clinical best practices. The manager fosters a high-performing, collaborative team, promotes continuous quality improvement, and develops strong partnerships with clinicians and administrative staff to enhance the patient and family experience.
Ultimately, this role ensures seamless care for patients with end-stage renal disease and the overall success of the facility.
- BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)- or equivalent years of experience (Required)
- MSN Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) (Preferred)
- 5 years Nursing Experience including at least 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis (Chronic or Acute program). (Required)
- 2 years Nursing Leadership experience. (Preferred)
- 1 year Recent pediatric experience in a comparable setting (Required)
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in pediatric dialysis, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and CRRT.
- Strong knowledge of pediatric nephrology, dialysis technology, and infection prevention standards.
- Proficiency in regulatory and compliance requirements (CMS, Joint Commission, AAMI, and state/federal guidelines).
- Proven leadership experience with staff supervision, performance management, and team development.
- Skilled in workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation within a clinical setting.
- Experience with quality improvement initiatives, data analysis, and patient safety practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to educate and support patients and families with compassion and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and change management skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, supplies, and other operational resources effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development; certification in nephrology nursing (CNN/CDN) or pediatric specialty preferred.
- Registered Nurse:
Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurse license in the state of District of Columbia. Upon Hire (Required) - Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) Upon Hire (Required)
- Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) - Expectation to obtain certification within 18 months of hire. 1 1/2 Yrs (Required)
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of both chronic and acute dialysis programs, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans in collaboration with nephrologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure all dialysis procedures comply with facility protocols, CMS regulations, and DC DOH requirements.
- Monitor patient outcomes, laboratory values, and treatment efficacy, and support staff to adjust care plans accordingly.
- Ensure proper documentation of all patient care activities, including treatments, complications, and follow-ups in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond to and manage patient emergencies or complications during dialysis treatments.
- Promote patient education regarding dialysis procedures, disease management, and lifestyle modifications.
- Recruit, orient, and supervise clinical staff, including dialysis nurses and technicians, for both chronic and acute programs.
- Conduct ongoing training and competency assessments to ensure staff deliver safe and effective care.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
