About PRN at Knollwood
A PRN (pro re nata — “as needed”) LPN at Knollwood are a critical part of our care delivery model. You are not a temporary fill — you are a vetted member of our extended nursing team. PRN staff are held to the same clinical and professional standards as our full - time LPN staff . In return, you get schedule flexibility and the option to transition to a regular position when one aligns with your goals.
A PRN LPN must maintain a minimum availability commitment to remain active in our pool. You will be contacted for shifts by unit charge staff based on census and scheduling needs.
About the Role
As a PRN Licensed Practical Nurse, you will deliver resident - focused nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or charge nurse. You will administer medications, document in the EHR, monitor resid ent health status, and support the CNA team in meeting shift goals. This is a resident - facing, hands - on clinical role that requires precision, consistency, and genuine care for older adults.
What You Will Do
- • Administer medications and treatments per physic ian orders with documented accuracy in Matrix Care EHR
- • Monitor residents for changes in health status and escalate concerns to the RN or charge nurse promptly
- • Complete and maintain accurate nursing documentation in accordance with CMS and DC DOH requirements
- • Guide and support CNA staff in meeting resident care and shift goals
- • Communicate respectfully and proactively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- • Participate in shift reports, care conferences, and quality improvement activities as requested
- • Follow infection control protocols, PPE requirements, and safety procedures without exception
- • Respond to resident emergencies under the direction of the charge RN and per established protocols
- • Complete incident reporting within the required two - hour window and assist with follow - up documentation
What We Are Looking For
- Required
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the District of Columbia, in good standing
- Current BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a geriatric, long - term care, or assisted living setting
- Proficiency in electronic health records (Matrix Care or similar EHR preferred)
- Strong teamwork, prioritization, and clinical communication skills
- Preferred
- Experience in a CCRC, Life Plan Community, or CMS five - star - rated facility
- Familiarity with DC DOH inspection standards and CMS Quality Measures
- Experience mentoring or directing CNA staff
- Bilingual communication skills
PRN Scheduling and Pay
- Pay Rate Depending Upon Experience
- $ 32.50 – $3 4.75 per hour differential
- Availability Required
- Minimum 2 shifts per month; day, evening, and overnight shifts available; weekend availability expected
