Postdoctoral Associate, HIV Vascular Research

Institution: GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C.

Department: Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine (MITM)

Position: Full‑time, 40 hours per week, 1 year appointment,
Salary range: $62,232 – $70,344.

Job Overview: GW offers world‑class research facilities, faculty, and an interdisciplinary environment. The MITM laboratory led by Dr. Maggirwar investigates vascular complications in HIV‑1 infection. The Postdoctoral Associate will design, conduct, and analyze experiments that explore platelet and antiretroviral (ART) modulation of immune responses in cardiovascular and neurovascular disease.

Responsibilities
  • Design and execute advanced experiments (wet‑bench, flow cytometry, microscopy, animal models).
  • Maintain detailed documentation of protocols and data.
  • Analyze results using appropriate statistical and ‘omics approaches.
  • Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and grant applications for publication.
  • Present findings at laboratory meetings, conferences, and symposia.
  • Supervise laboratory staff, trainees, and assist in general lab operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator, PI, and external collaborators.
  • Adapt to new technologies and contribute to innovative methodology development.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, Systems Biology, or a related field (must have graduated by the date of employment).
  • Experience in genomics or proteomics of clinical immune cell isolates and validation in vitro/in vivo.
  • Proficiency in rodent handling, in vivo experiments, flow cytometry, and advanced imaging.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, independent research experience, and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and submit research proposals and grants.
