Top Secret Research Physicist

Insight Global is seeking a highly motivated Research Physicist with a strong background in optics to conduct cutting‑edge research in advanced optical materials, nonlinear optics and high‑power laser physics to support a federal customer in Washington DC.

A successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative team of scientist, inventing and innovating novel solutions to the most challenging problems facing naval science and technology.

Their day to day will include but not be limited to:

• Contributing to the design, development, integration, test and evaluation of pulsed, state‑of‑the‑art, solid‑state, visible, near and mid‑infrared High‑Energy Laser (HEL) technology for government customers.
• Evaluating gain material, dopant identity and concentration, and heat spreading material for use in HELs, improved gain media mounting architecture through an iterative development procedure, using interferometry, far field beam quality and nearfield wavefront sensing to optimize the laser output.
• Designing, building and operating several vacuum chambers to support the development of HEL technology; vacuum systems built to explore ion beam polishing and material bonding, house lasers and house process monitoring systems as well as provide materials characterization.
• Developing and maintaining several home‑built software tools for HEL development in Python and Matlab to analyze metrology data and to track system configuration, damage and performance.
• Studying extensively the reactivity of chemical warfare agents on surface‑deposited, novel metal oxide cluster compositions for practical use in combat areas.
