The Dangerous Organizations and Individuals (DOI) Policy team is seeking a contractor for a one year project with the possibility of extension.
In an effort to prevent and disrupt real-world harm, Meta uses its DOI policies to designate organizations and individuals that proclaim a violent or hateful mission or are engaged in violence or hate. The development of new designations and the review of our existing designation list is an important part of Meta’s work to keep our users safe. The successful candidate for this role will undertake detailed research and high quality drafting in support of our efforts to review our existing designations list.
Additionally, the candidate will conduct basic investigations on Meta platforms to identify potential enforcement gaps.
Successful candidates will have strong research and writing skills in order to articulate findings through both written products and briefings. In addition, Meta is looking for collaborative candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, team-centric environment. The right candidate will be committed to countering online violent extremism and hate while being passionate about the positive power of social media.
Job ResponsibilitiesUnderstand the thresholds and evidence required for internal policy designation as a dangerous organization or individual.
Conduct research, write, and assess previous designation decisions using appropriate thresholds and evidence requirements.
Draft analytical memoranda and give verbal briefings explaining specific designations.
Conduct basic investigations on Meta platforms to identify enforcement gaps related to designated entities;
Work with colleagues on other teams, including Meta’s Legal, Content Policy, and other internal stakeholders to prepare, refine, and edit memoranda for leadership review.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in public policy, law, political science, international studies, or related field required.
1-3 years of total experience. Relevant work experience preferably in: counter terrorism, counter-extremism, counter-narcotics, security, investigations, or intelligence;
Excellent organizational skills and very strong attention to detail;
Strong research, writing, communication, and analytical skills;
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, adapting quickly to competing priorities and a varied workload.
Preferred QualificationsMA or JD preferred
Ability to conduct research in a foreign language (Spanish, Hindi, Arabic preferred)
Experience in conducting open source or all source investigations
