Bristol Myers Squibb seeks a Senior Scientist to lead formulation and drug product development for viral vectors, mRNA, and lipid nanoparticle systems used in gene therapy and cell engineering. The role emphasizes biophysical stability, freeze/thaw behavior, lyophilization, and cold-chain reduction strategies, with responsibility for transitioning formulations through clinical and commercial manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Design and execute formulation studies for viral vectors and nucleic acid/LNP products across liquid, frozen, and lyophilized presentations
Lead freeze/thaw, cryopreservation, and lyophilization cycle development; characterize freeze-concentration and collapse behavior impacts on product attributes
Apply biophysical characterization to elucidate degradation mechanisms and guide formulation optimization decisions
Design and interpret stability studies to support shelf-life and storage claims; maintain documentation in electronic laboratory notebook
Support technology transfer and process scale-up activities; develop relationships with external CMOs and CROs; author technical and regulatory reports
- Demonstrated expertise in biophysical and colloidal stability of biologics and advanced-modality products
Hands-on experience with freeze/thaw and frozen-state stability studies
Working proficiency with DSC/mDSC, freeze-drying microscopy, and dynamic light scattering techniques
Ability to design buffer, cryoprotectant, and surfactant systems from first principles
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical/Biomedical Engineering; or M.S./B.S. with 6+/10+ years relevant experience
Experience with regulatory documentation, cGMP, and ICH guidelines
Strong technical writing and oral communication skills for diverse audiences
